Home Composting

Lincolnshire County Council, & all of the Districts are working in partnership with Straight PLC to offer residents across the County home compost bins at discounted prices.

Why Compost at Home?

• Compost produces healthier plants
• Nutrients can be provided by home compost, reducing the need for other fertilisers
• Compost will improve soil condition and structure
• You won't need to buy compost from garden centres.
• Purchased compost often contains peat - peat extraction can cause serious, irreversible damage to the local environment and can result in loss of wildlife by making your own compost it eliminates this.
• Home composting reduces the amount of waste that you put into household waste collection.

Home compost needs to be mixed with other materials, such as bark chippings before using as a growing medium for seeds or cuttings.
