At Work

Only around 7% of all waste generated in the UK is from households. The majority of waste is Industrial and Commercial Waste.

Unlike household waste, Local Authorities do not have a legal duty to collect and treat waste from a business. However they can provide information and guidance for businesses looking to manage their waste in a more sustainable way.

What is Commercial waste?

Waste produced from any industry, commerce or business. Even if you run a business from your own home any waste produced  is still commercial waste.

Businesses must comply with relevant waste legislation; it is an offence to breach this legislation, to find out more about relevant legislation please look at the web links section. A business has a duty of care to dispose of its waste in a proper and auditable manner. A business can be fined if it fails to dispose of its waste in the proper way.
